Physician-Owners of Wisconsin ASC Open Attached Rehab Facility

Seven surgeons and an anesthesiologist who co-own The Orthopedic & Sports Institute of the Fox Valley and its surgery center in Appleton, Wis., have financed and opened the Recovery Inn, a 12-room, hotel-like rehab facility specifically designed for patients undergoing joint replacements, according to Aaron Bleier, finance manager of Orthopedic & Sports Surgery Center and a report by the Appleton Post Crescent.

Recovery Inn, which admitted its first patients the week of Aug. 2, is attached to OSI.

The $3.8 million facility is leased to and operated by OSI's partnered skilled nursing organization, St. Paul Elder Services.

Patients undergoing joint replacements used to be transferred to a hospital or the St. Paul Elder Services skilled nursing care facility with a rehabilitation unit in Kaukauna to recover after their surgery, but can now go down the hall to the Recovery Inn.

Each of the 12 private rooms include laptops, wireless Internet access, flat-screen televisions, DVD players and made-to-order meals, according to the Appleton Post Crescent report.
