McKenzie Surgery Center in Eugene, Ore., is offering free surgeries to 20 underserved patients, according to a report by The Register-Guard.
Here are five things to know:
1. This the fifth consecutive year that the ASC has offered charity care.
2. On one day every year, around 10 to 15 local surgeons volunteer to perform 12 to 25 surgeries.
3. The patients, many of whom do not have health insurance, are typically referred via the nonprofit healthcare clinic Volunteers in Medicine. Some patients are referred by surgeons.
4. The surgeries usually include hand surgeries, removal of a wrist tumor, elbow surgery, hemorrhoid removal and hernia repair, among others.
5. The ASC is affiliated with Surgical Care Affiliates.
