RTV6 reported on the story of Sandi Bowen, a woman diagnosed with breast cancer who decided to undergo a surgical procedure to remove her breast at an ASC.

1. Ms. Bowen had the surgery at Kaiser Permanente Ambulatory Surgery Center. In less than 24 hours, she was recovering at home.
"I felt very special," Ms. Bowen told RTV6. "They were there every time I moved. They came in and talked to me, even goofed around with me."
2. Kaiser Permanente said patients see an average cost savings of 30 percent at ASCs compared to hospitals.
3. Mike Sawyer, MD, the director of the center, said the ASC environment allows him and his staff to provide more personal care, and that he and his staff have worked hard to address concerns regarding patient care.
"If it's a patient that just needs physicians to kind of come to the bedside, and maybe we have to have some kind of intervention, we're able to do that because are here and we are present," Dr. Sawyer told RTV6. "On site, as they say. If it's really something that requires a higher level of care, that again allows us to do a pretty quick transfer process over to one of our partner hospitals."
