Former eye center employee who stole $514K gets 5 years in prison: 4 key notes

A former eye center employee who was convicted of stealing $514,000 from the center was sentenced to five years in prison, according to the Williamsburg Yorktown Daily.

 

Here are four things to know:

1. The employee, a former practice manager for Riverside Medical Group's Cullom Eye and Laser Center in Williamsburg, Va., used three practice credit cards for personal expenditures.

2. She worked at the center from 2012 to 2016 and reportedly used the credit cards to pay for preschool tuition for her son and took cash advances to pay for other personal items. She reportedly used the bank account of Robert Cullom, MD, to pay off the cards.

3. The practice manager resigned in August 2016 but continued making charges on the credit cards.

4. Earlier this year, the former employee was convicted of wire fraud, bank fraud and filing false federal income tax returns, according to the report.
