A former Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare executive — who the U.S. Department of Justice alleged was involved in a $400 million kickback scheme — filed a motion calling his indictment "legally flawed," Reuters reports.
Here's what you should know:
1. John Holland's lawyers filed a motion in federal court June 15, alleging the charges against him were legally flawed.
2. Tenet paid the government $514 million in October 2016 to resolve kickback allegations. However, Mr. Holland and a pair of former executives were charged separately.

3. The DOJ alleged Mr. Holland and his co-conspirators surpassed Tenet's accounting department to pay kickbacks and bribes to Georgia-and South Carolina-based clinics that referred pregnant patients to Tenet hospitals for Medicare-covered deliveries.
4. The motion Mr. Holland's lawyers filed claims the charges against him were flawed because the contracts executives used to pay hospital operators were allegedly not fair value for the prenatal clinic's services.
5. The DOJ believes the scheme allowed Tenet to bill CMS more than $400 million.
