Nearly half of U.S. physicians (49%) remain burnt out in 2024, citing their personal lives, professional lives or both according to a Medscape's "Physician Burnout & Depression Report 2024."
For the survey, Medscape interviewed 9,226 physicians between July 5 and Oct. 9.
About 56% of female physicians report burnout, compared to 44% of their male counterparts. The majority (83%) of male and female physicians blame job stress for their burnout.
Physicians often cope with work-related burnout by exercising, talking to family members or friends, getting more sleep, spending time alone or listening to music, according to the report.
