Average Retirement Savings of Physicians Older Than 66 years: 5 Statistics

The average retirement savings of most physicians older than 66 years total between $1 million and $3 million, according to 2013 Report on U.S. Physicians’ Financial Preparedness, by AMA Insurance.

The survey, conducted in December 2012, includes responses from 2,365 physicians.

When asked what their average retirement savings are, physicians above the age of 66 years reported:

•    Under $100,000 — 2 percent
•    Between $100,000 and $500,000 — 8 percent
•    Between $500,000 $1 million — 17 percent
•    Between $1 million and $3 million — 43 percent
•    More than $3 million — 30 percent
