The Iowa Caucus will be tonight and Americans are paying close attention to which candidates succeed. But healthcare isn’t the top issue this time around; it isn’t even in the top five.
According to a Kaiser Health Tracking Poll, “terrorism” is the top concern for 38 percent of the respondents. Here are five key notes from the report:
1. The top concerns for Americans in the election this year are:
• Terrorism: 38 percent
• Economy and jobs: 34 percent
• Cost of your healthcare/insurance: 28 percent
• Dissatisfaction with government: 28 percent
• The federal budget deficit: 28 percent
The ACA placed eighth, with 23 percent feeling it was among the top issue, right behind gun control and the situation in Iraq and Syria.
2. Only 4 percent of the respondents said the most important issue in the election is the ACA. The cost of healthcare received 6 percent of the votes.
3. Only 39 percent of the respondents were aware President Obama vetoed the repeal of the ACA legislation.
4. Public opinion of the ACA hasn’t changed much this month. Forty-four percent have an unfavorable view of the ACA and 41 percent have a favorable one.
5. Among working age adults with insurance, Americans’ experience varies greatly with 87 percent report being “very” or “somewhat” satisfied with the choice of physicians in their plan’s network; 4 percent are “very dissatisfied.”
