After shortened enrollment period, ACA hits 8.8M
Approximately 8.8 million people purchased coverage through the ACA despite a shortened enrollment period, CMS announced.

NH hospital closes joint venture ASC; outpatient cases moving back to the hospital
Rochester, N.H.-based Frisbie Memorial Hospital closed Skyhaven Surgery Center, also in Rochester, Dec. 22. The board of managers decided to close the ASC as a "business decision," according to the report, but provided no further information.

Medicare Modernization Act increased outpatient surgery payments by $1B
A study, published in Health Services Research, examined how Medicare's revised payment schedule affected overall payments for outpatient surgery. Outpatient surgery payments grew by $334 million between the last quarters of 2007 and 2008. The amount was three times higher than what was expected pre-policy change.

After record year, Physicians Realty Trust to pay quarterly dividend
Physicians Realty Trust announced it would pay its common stock shareholders a $0.23 dividend per share for the quarter ending Dec. 31. In 2017, PRT completed $1.4 billion-plus in record investment into medical offices. The company said as a result of such investment it's able to pay its 18th consecutive quarterly dividend.

Seaside Surgery Center posts package pricing for orthopedic surgeries
Seaside Surgery Center in Naples, Fla., posted all-inclusive package pricing for orthopedic surgeries on its website Dec. 20. The procedure prices posted online include:

● Knee arthroscopy: $4,000
● Partial knee replacement: $22,500
● Total knee replacement: $23,700
● Total hip replacement: $24,900

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh adds Dr. Andrew Feranchak as pediatric GI chief
Liver disease expert Andrew Feranchak, MD, was appointed Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh's chief of pediatric gastroenterology.

Pentax Medical names David Woods CEO, president of Americas region
Pentax Medical's Americas region has a new leader in David Woods. Mr. Woods is the company's current global chief marketing officer. He will become president and CEO of Pentax Medical's Americas region.
