5 lawyers named award finalists for ASC lawsuit over MicroCool gowns — 4 quick facts

Public Justice named Bahamas Surgery Center v. Kimberly-Clark one of four finalist cases for its 2018 Trial Lawyer of the Year Award.

Here's what you should know:

1. The lawsuit alleged manufacturers Kimberly-Clark Corp. and Halyard Health fraudulently represented their MicroCool surgical gowns as safe and impermeable despite knowledge the gowns were defective.

2. In April 2017, a jury unanimously awarded more than $454 million in punitive and compensatory damages against the manufacturers.

3. The team of lawyers representing the ASC was comprised of Michael J. Avenatti, Ahmed Ibrahim and Filippo Marchino of Eagan Avenatti; Edward Ricci of Ed Ricci Law; and William C. Hearon.

4. The award recognizes attorneys working on behalf of victims of grave injustice or abuse. Public Justice will announce the winner at its Annual Gala and Awards Dinner July 9 in Denver.
