4 things to know about Pain Specialists of Southern Oregon's new ASC & pain management

Medford-based Pain Specialists of Southern Oregon physician George Johnston, DO, spoke with NewsWatch12 about the practice's approach to chronic pain management.

Here are four things to know:

1. There's a common misconception people are sent to pain clinics just to receive opioid prescriptions, Dr. Johnston said.

"In our case, that's far from what we do. We'll evaluate and manage patients and treat them with a multimodal approach. We will prescribe medication including opioids but also prescribe lots of non-opioids," he said.

2. Pain Specialists of Southern Oregon offers interventional procedures including spinal injections, joint injections, peripheral nerve blocks and radiofrequency neurotomy procedures.

3. The physicians also provide implantable pain therapies like spinal stimulation, an alternative to opioid analgesics for patients who have failed neck or lower back surgery and persistent neck, lower back, arm or leg pain.

4. The practice plans to open a new facility, Crater Lake Surgery Center, in Medford, Ore.
