ASC Leader to Know: Dr. Christine Corbin of Surgery Center at Tanasbourne

Christine Corbin, MD, a board-certified obstetrics and gynecology surgeon, is a physician-owner and medical director of the Surgery Center at Tanasbourne in Hillsboro, Ore., a physician-owned facility that is also partly owned by Blue Chip Surgical Partners and Providence Health & Services. In addition to her leadership role at the surgery center, she is founder and president of Northwest Gynecology Associates, which has provided a comprehensive array of women's services since in 1994.

Dr. Corbin graduated from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown, Ohio, and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago. She is also affiliated with Oregon's Providence St. Vincent Medical Center/PPMC and Tuality Community Hospital.

Dr. Corbin's leadership was instrumental in Surgery Center at Tanasbourne's Direct Access Colonoscopy Program, designed to increase compliance rates for colonoscopy patients. As the surgery center's medical director, Dr. Corbin played the crucial role of communicating and working with primary care physicians in the local community and Providence Health and Services' network to streamline referrals. The program ultimately led to an increase in referrals, colonoscopy compliance rates and patient satisfaction.

"Overall ASC success and the effectiveness of programs like Direct Access are highly dependent on having engaged owners who are committed to the success of the venture and acting as strong team players," said Cindy Givens, RN, BSN, administrator of Surgery Center at Tanasbourne. "Direct Access simply would not have worked without the efforts of Drs. Carter, Cavanaugh, Corbin and Frankhouse, not to mention the support of the other investors."
