Valley Surgical Center to Stay With Medicare After Fixing Compliance Issues

Federal officials have rescinded their intention to drop Valley Surgical Center in Bethlehem, Pa., from Medicare after state inspectors said the ASC cleaned up patient safety violations, according to a Morning Call report.

A spokeswoman from CMS said the agency would continue to provide insurance coverage for patients who visit Valley Surgical Center. The surgery center is "in substantial compliance" with health and safety regulations, according to the report.

CMS said in February that it would drop the surgery center from Medicare on March 1 following poor inspections in December and January. Owner Steven A. Mortazavi, MD, said Thursday that Valley Surgical patients would see no interruption in services or payments now that deficiencies have been corrected.
