US government recovered $2.5B from Medicare, Medicaid fraud in 2018: 3 things to know

The U.S. Department of Justice recovered $2.5 billion from healthcare fraud for the 2018 fiscal year, according to the agency.

Here are the key details to know:

1. The DOJ recovered money from Medicare, Medicaid and Tricare fraud.

2. The largest recoveries were from the drug and medical device industries, including cases involving the AmerisourceBergen Corporation, Alere and Pfizer.

3. DaVita Medical holdings was also mentioned in the DOJ's report for providing inaccurate information, which led Medicare Advantage Organizations to receive inflated Medicare payments.
