Study: Providers Lag Behind Payors and Pharma in Data Exchange Efforts

Healthcare providers are lagging behind the efforts of payors and pharmaceutical companies in exchanging data with others, according to a PwC U.S. Health Research Institute report.

The study surveyed more than 600 providers, health insurers and pharmaceutical/life science professionals. PwC found that 69 percent of providers are exchanging no data, compared to 53 percent of health insurers and 51 percent of pharma/life sciences companies.

Major organizational barriers identified by providers included prioritizing tasks (58 percent), aligning clinical and technology teams (50 percent), preventing information overload (44 percent), data being kept in silos throughout the organization (43 percent) and inadequate funding (43 percent).
