Physicians have until the end of the Medicare open enrollment period to decide whether to participate in the program, according to an American Medical Association report.
The open enrollment period was extended to Jan. 31, 2014 because the physician fee schedule was delayed. Any physicians that wish to change their status must do so before then.
With the 2014 Budget Act, which was signed by President Barack Obama last week, the 20.1 percent physician fee cut will be postponed until April to allow legislators enough time to enact meaningful reform to the sustainable growth rate. In the meantime, physicians will receive a 0.5 percent raise in reimbursement.
