Oregon Could Develop Coordinated Care Organization

Oregon could develop a single coordinated care organization for the Portland area, according to the Lund Report.

The Tri-County Medicaid Collaborative plans to file a letter of intent with the Oregon Health Authority to coordinate healthcare for the 200,000 people on the Oregon Health Plan, according to the report. The five managed care plans that currently provide such servces are CareOregon, Family Care Health Plans, Kaiser Permanente, Providence Health & Services and Tuality Healthcare.

The goals of the collaborative are to simplify administrative overhead and expense, introduce evidence-based medicine and best practices and improve access to medical homes. The 14 members of the CCO have agreed to contribute a total of $5 million to pay for the operations and infrastructure of the collaborative. They have also applied for a $30 million grant from CMS, anticipating needing a minimum of $40 million in reserves during the CCO's first year.
