North Carolina Commissioner Wayne Goodwin said the Affordable Care Act may compel payers to leave the state, according to BlueRidgeNow.com.
Here are three things to know:
1. Commissioner Goodwin reached out to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, citing rising insurance costs, decreasing consumer choice and "unsustainable financial losses for insurance companies."
2. Because of the ACA and the financial losses it's caused, Commissioner Goodwin believes North Carolina will start to lose payers in the individual market.
3. Before the implementation of the ACA, North Carolina had 29 individual health insurance plans. In 2016, the state offers only eight individual health insurance plans.
