Increasing ambulatory access top focus of executives — 3 insights

C-level healthcare executives said increasing access to ambulatory care was their top priority in 2019, according to the Advisory Board's Annual Health Care CEO Survey.

The Advisory Board asked 90 healthcare executives to rank 29 issues by level of urgency. Three insights from the survey:

1. Improving ambulatory access was the highest ranked issue, with 57 percent of executives awarding it a top ranking, up from 46.6 percent in 2018.

2. Boosting outpatient procedure market share remained important. Exactly 46.3 percent of executives identified the segment among their most important priorities in 2019, down from 50.3 percent in 2018.

3. Concerning financial priorities, cost containment fell precipitously from the top priority in 2018 to the bottom priority in 2019. Revenue growth took over the top spot. While cost containment is still important, maximizing revenues is of the utmost importance in this healthcare environment.
