Humana to cut 2,700 jobs — 4 insights

After seeing third quarter 2017 revenues decrease 11 percent year-over-year, Humana announced it would eliminate 2,700 positions, Forbes reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Humana reported $799 million in revenue for the quarter, down $902 million from the same quarter last year.

2. Humana is making the workforce reduction to "invest in technology and infrastructure needed to offer more competitive insurance products."

3. Humana CEO Bruce Broussard said to investors, "There is a continued need to invest in the business."

4. In the third quarter, Humana's premiums and healthcare services revenues were down 3 percent or $420 million year-over-year.
