The federal government's Health Information Technology Policy Committee has shifted its focus toward addressing the challenge of electronic health record clinical documentation, according to EHR Intelligence.
At the request of National Coordinator Farzad Mostashari, MD, the committee will look at EHR documentation in terms of improved patient care and reduced potential billing fraud.
Dr. Mostashari testified during a Congressional hearing recently about EHR adoption, as well as incentives or methods for Medicare billing abuse. The Meaningful Use Workgroup is looking at clinical documentation to find a way to accurately capture patient care and activities.
