Sens. Dean Heller, R-Nev., Rob Portman, R-Ohio, and Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., want to undo Medicaid expansion and eliminate federal funding over a seven year period, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Here's what you should know:
1. Analysts predict the phase out would force states to reduce coverage for their beneficiaries.
2. Sens. Ted. Cruz, R-Ohio, and Rand Paul, R-Ky., want the government to completely repeal Medicaid expansion.
3. Republicans in the senate are attempting to incorporate a potential expansion phase out three to five years into the American Health Care Act. House Republicans proposed eliminating expansion in two years through their draft legislation.
4. States like Nevada could face a $250 million budgetary shortfall and would have to eliminate coverage for more than 200,000 people if expansion is immediately rolled back.
5. Analysts believe the Senate could vote on an AHCA replacement before the upcoming July 4 recess. The Republicans hold a 52 to 48 majority in the Senate. The Senate needs 51 votes to pass the legislation or 50 votes for the vice president to break a tie.
