Florida representative files bill for 24-hour ASC stays: Will officials pass the legislation in 2018?

Florida officials have strived to pass a bill permitting 24-hour stays at ASCs, including Rep. Paul Renner, R-Sarasota, according to newdailynews.com.

Here are four notes:

1. Mr. Renner filed bill HB 23 Oct. 19.

2. The bill would permit up to 24-hour patient stays at ASCs, which currently are outlawed in the state. The bill also would allow the state to open recovery care centers where patients could stay up to 72 hours.

3. Sen. Greg Stuebe, R-Sarasota, filed similar legislation in September that would also allow 24-hour stays at ASCs. However, Mr. Stuebe's bill does not include a provision authorizing recovery care centers.

4. The Florida Senate will consider Mr. Stuebe's bill during the 2018 legislative session.
