The percentage of American adults who get their health insurance from an employer continues to fall, at 44.5 percent in the third quarter of this year compared to at least 45 percent in every month of 2010, according to a Gallup report.
The percentage has steadily declined since Gallup and Healthways started tracking the source of Americans' health insurance in 2008, according to the report. The researchers believe the trend is driven by several factors, including the rise in unemployment and underemployment and the choice on the part of many employers to stop offering health insurance.
The percentage of adults with no health insurance has been rising in 2011, with the 17.3 percent who were uninsured last quarter statistically tying the second quarter of this year for the highest on record.
