Engaging, Serving Patients Will Make Self-Pay More Effective

To make self-pay revenue cycle strategies work, healthcare providers must approach the task with the proper mindset and strategy, according to Healthcare Finance News.

Providers should be sensitive to the concerns many patients possess about the cost of care and should work to be more connected with patients, according to the report. They can no longer rely on the traditional approach of sending statements, waiting for payments and contacting patients after 180 days. Providers should "proactively engage patients" with self-pay balances, according to the report.

Along with engaging patients more, health providers should make themselves easily reached by patients through returning phone calls and providing exemplary customer service. Patients who are treated like guests will be more willing to work with their health system and make timely payments, according to the report.
