Dr. Farzad Mostashari Defends Meaningful Use Before Congress

The National Coordinator for Health Information Technology Farzad Mostashari, MD, defended meaningful use before a Congressional hearing, according to EHR Intelligence.

Dr. Mostashari argued that pushing interoperability and standards-based exchange too aggressively could alienate stakeholders in EHR incentive programs, including providers and health IT vendors. He and three other witnesses gave testimony about whether or not meaningful use is delivering meaningful results.

He also stressed the importance of striking a balance between ambitious goals and realistic expectations for Stage 1 and Stage 2 requirements.
