CareSource deems 1st year of enrollments a success — 5 observations

CareSource, the second company in West Virginia to offer health insurance plans on the state's marketplace created in the ACA, is deeming the first year of enrollment successful, according to MetroNews.

Here are five observations:

1. First-year enrollments are 20 percent higher than CareSource had estimated.

2. Dayton, Ohio-based CareSource had more than 1,800 West Virginians sign up for health insurance.

3. The company is offering plans in 10 West Virginia counties including Brooke, Cabell, Hancock, Kanawha, Lincoln, Marshall, Mason, Ohio, Putnam and Wayne. The company also operates in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.

4. 2016 is the first year state residents in those 10 counties have other insurance options aside from health insurance plans offered through Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield

5. Nearly 13 million people enrolled for health plans through the ACA during the third open enrollment period.
