Alabama Has Least Competitive Health Insurance Market in U.S.

Alabama has the least competitive health insurance market in the United States, according to a report from the Kaiser Family Foundation reported in The Montgomery Advisor.

The report found that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama sells 86 percent of the individual market policies and 96 percent of the small group market policies in the state. The report found that individual insurers dominate the insurance markets in 45 states but that Alabama's numbers were significantly higher than the national median rates of 54 percent and 51 percent, respectively.

A spokesperson for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama said the market dominance reflects the company's commitment to its customers.
