AHIMA Convention Focuses on Healthcare Coding Trends

The American Health Information Management Association held a convention recently, and healthcare billing, coding and information trends were presented, according to SearchHealthIT.

Most talked about trends include health data governance, computer-assisted coding systems and speech-recognition technology and natural language processing for coders.

Vendors and AHIMA members agree the transition to ICD-10 will be challenging for coders but will increase job openings in the market.

Even with the potential for CACS and NLP to help with human documentation, they will also create the challenge of implementing into a network and a workflow.
