AHA Supports CMS Electronic Claims Rule

The American Hospital Association praised the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ proposed interim final rule for administrative claims processing for electronic transactions, according to Modern Healthcare.

CMS chose to adopt operating rules developed by the Committee on Operating Rules for Information Exchange. The interim final rule was published Aug. 10 and will become effective Jan. 1, 2014. The public comment period on the rules ends Oct. 9.

The AHA praised the rule and said it will help hospitals achieve savings by establishing consistent data collection routines and will reduce cumbersome routines required of healthcare providers.

The hospital association also urges CMS to “take the lead in providing educational and instructional materials to clarify the correct use of the reassociation data reported on both the EFT and ERA.”
