AAPC Releases 2010 Highest- and Lowest-Paying States for Coders

California, Maryland, New Jersey, Alaska, Massachusetts and Hawaii were the top paying states for coders in 2010, according to data released in AAPC's 2010 Salary Survey.

California topped the list with an average coder salary of $55,164, followed by New Jersey ($53,725), Alaska ($51,447), Massachusetts ($51,159) and Hawaii ($51,071).

The lowest-paying states for coders were Arkansas ($36,856), Wyoming ($37,870), Iowa ($38,316), West Virginia ($38,380) and Montana ($38,500).

The overall average certified coder salary in 2010 was $45,404, according to the survey.
