AAPC Initiative to Encourage Efficient Physician Practice Management

The American Association of Professional Coders has introduced a practice management initiative to help physician practices operate more efficiently, increase claims submission accuracy and receive more appropriate compensation, according to an AAPC release.

AAPC is developing a set of virtual practices, organized by specialty, to train multiple positions within a practice. Participants will assume a job and do the work virtually, while AAPC's initiative measures accuracy and efficiency. The organization will also develop curriculum, testing and credentials for non-clinical positions within the practice.

With significant changes facing the healthcare industry, AAPC believes physicians must create far more efficient processes and find highly qualified personnel to handle the onslaught of requirements. ICD-10 implementation, changes to billing rules, decreasing reimbursements and mandated EMRs are just a few of the challenges on the horizon for physician practices, according to the release.
