As code set changes took affect Jan. 1, surgery centers can now be looking to update their chargemasters to comply with regulatory guidelines and ensure proper payment, according to AAPC.
Here are three considerations for updating a chargemaster, or CDM.
1. Minimally, charges should be cost divided by the cost-to-charge ratio.
2. Consider all aspects of a cost, including delivery, storage, overhead and more.
3. Coding regulation changes drive a CDM, so updates may need to occur quarterly.
