The Rural Health Project released its report "Medicaid in Small Towns and Rural America," documenting medical utilization rates throughout America.
The project's coalition consists of Washington, D.C.-based Georgetown University researchers and Chapel Hill-based University of North Carolina.
Here are 14 states where more than half of all children were covered by Medicaid in 2014 through 2015.
1. Arkansas — 61 percent
2. Mississippi — 60 percent
3. New Mexico — 59 percent
4. Florida — 57 percent
5. South Carolina — 57 percent
6. Arizona — 54 percent
7. California — 54 percent
8. North Carolina — 54 percent
9. Georgia — 53 percent
10. Washington — 53 percent
11. Louisiana — 53 percent
12. Oregon — 52 percent
13. Alabama — 52 percent
14. West Virginia — 51 percent
More children are gaining Medicaid in these small towns resulting in a decrease in the overall uninsured base.
