New requirements are coming for ASCs and other healthcare providers that are participating in The Joint Commission's advanced total hip and total knee replacement certification program July 1.
There are 11 new and revised elements taking effect this summer, stemming from a field and literature-based review of standards.
The new requirements include:
1. Supporting the continuity of care with standardized handoffs and transfer protocols.
2. Following American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons' current clinical practice guidelines.
3. Monitoring blood management and infection rates through a performance improvement process.
4. Providing orientation for staff caring for knee and hip replacement procedures.
5. Standardizing care delivery during the pre and postoperative phases, as well as during surgery.
