Woodbury, Minn.-based Summit Orthopedics' Eagan (Minn.) Surgery Center is the country's first ASC to receive The Joint Commission's spine fusion certification.
What you should know:
1. The physician-run surgery center has six operating rooms.
2. To deliver quality care, Summit physicians carefully screen surgical candidates, use an O-arm CT scanner and provide multimodal pain management.
3. Spine surgeon David Strothman, MD, said, "The reality is that spine surgery is complex. But our certification demonstrates that spine surgery can be performed very safely in a surgery center. The specific surgical setting doesn’t matter as much as the screening of appropriate patients, the training of the surgeons and medical team, the facility resources and the protocols in place to make sure patients get everything they need."
