Becker's ASC Review featured the following ASCs in July. All are accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.
1. Peoria, Ill.-based Central Illinois Endoscopy Center opened 10 years ago. Physicians there have performed over 90,000 procedures. The Central Illinois Endoscopy Center was recognized in 2010 by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
2. Bay Area Physicians Surgery Center in Riverview, Fla. opened in 2007 and specializes in urology, gastroenterology, orthopedics and podiatry. The center is managed by healthcare management company HCA. There are 40 physicians on staff.
3. Ankeny (Iowa) Medical Park Surgery Center is a joint venture between Unity Point Health, Clive-based Iowa Digestive Disease Center and Des Moines (Iowa) Orthopaedic Surgeons. It has 17 physicians on staff. Physicians at the center specialize in orthopedics and gastroenterology.
4. The Atlanta Endoscopy Center was founded in 1994 by David B. Rausher MD, who also founded the Atlanta Center for Gastroenterology. There are two physicians on staff. The center is Medicare-certified and licensed by the state of Georgia.
5. Lexington, Ky.-based Baptist-Physicians’ Surgery Center was founded in 2002. Physicians there specialize in gastroenterology, orthopedic surgery and general surgery and perform 13,000 cases annually.
6. Anchorage, Alaska-based Alpine Surgery Center has 15 physicians on staff, all physician owners in the center. Physicians specialize in orthopedics, pain medicine and anesthesia. Joseph Seelig, MD, is medical director.
7. Bel Air, Md.-based Harford Endoscopy Center opened in 1994 and has an adenoma (polyp) detection rate above the national benchmark. It uses GIQuIC, a GI quality registry, to track outcomes, comparing its results to benchmarks set by the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
