The Joint Commission released a tool for surgery centers covering physician credentialing and accreditation updates.
Here are five things ASCs must have in place for providers to practice without supervision:
1. Scope of care defined by the organization.
2. Identified licensed independent practitioners and make sure they are practicing within state laws and regulations.
3. Each licensed independent practitioner should have an identified scope of practice that meets state laws and regulations.
4. Qualifications for licensed independent practitioners should be defined in order to practice at your facility, including education and training as well as board certification.
5. A formal request for privileges from each practitioner to provide care. The request can be in a letter form, application or documented conversation with the medical director.
