Richard Provus, MD, a Joint Commission ambulatory surveyor, shares the three most common questions he is asked while conducting an accreditation survey.
Q: Does a surgery center receive accreditation after the survey is completed if they are in compliance with all standards?
A: No, but the surveyor will share preliminary survey findings. The Joint Commission Central Office will make the final decision.
Q: How long does it take to receive accreditation after the survey is completed?
A: It depends on the circumstances. If a surgery center needs to submit an Evidence of Standards Compliance, once it is approved, the decision will be immediately posted to the ASC's Joint Commission Connect extranet site.
Q: When can surgery center leaders submit Evidence of Standards Compliance?
A: A surgery center's final report is posted to its Connect extranet site within 10 business days. This posting generates the ESC form, if needed. Surgery centers have 45 days to submit an ESC for direct findings and 60 days for indirect findings.
