Teva to Begin Producing Propofol

To help ease the propofol shortage, drug manufacturer Teva will be releasing product by the end of February, according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

Teva discontinued propofol in 2010, but will reenter the market because of the drug shortage.

Maker Fresenius has increased its drug production, and the FDA will continue to import Propoven, a similar drug, from overseas.

ASA is working closely with the FDA to mitigate and prevent further drug shortages.
