Irving, Texas-based NorthStar Anesthesia fell victim to a phishing campaign that compromised several employees emails and patient records.
Here's what you should know:
1. NorthStar employee accounts were phished between April 3 and May 24. Unauthorized parties gained access to an undisclosed number of accounts, exposing personal information including names, IRS identity protection numbers, taxpayer identification numbers, medical treatment information and, for certain patients, social security numbers.
2. Upon learning of the event, NorthStar worked with forensic investigators to identify the scope and nature of the incident.
3. NorthStar mailed letters to the potentially affected individuals. The anesthesia practice is offering those individuals free credit monitoring services for two years.
4. The practice responded by implementing several new security measures, "to protect information in our care."
