FBI agents visited several Pain Management Associates locations during an investigation Oct. 30, WSPA 7News reports.
Here are five insights:
1. FBI agencies seized documents and interviewed staff at Pain Management Associates centers in Spartanburg, N.C., Greenville, S.C., and Easley, N.C. The FBI would not confirm the reason for the investigation to WSPA 7News reporters.
2. Earlier this year, Pain Management Associates' Blake Leche, MD, and physician assistant Amanda Leche were charged with conspiring to illegally distribute hydrocodone and oxycodone prescriptions.
3. However, Pain Management Associates physician Bert Blackwell, MD, told WSPA 7News the FBI investigation doesn't concern Mr. and Mrs. Leche. When asked if investigators could be looking into the practice's billing or recordkeeping, Dr. Blackwell said the practice would take steps to correct errors if any were discovered.
4. The FBI, HHS and Drug Enforcement Administration are involved in the investigation, according to an FBI spokesman.
5. The clinics under investigation were closed Oct. 30 but expected to reopen.
