The University of Pittsburgh has named Debra K. Weiner, MD, director of a new pain center established under the National Institutes of Health Pain Consortium.
The NIH Pain Consortium recently designated 11 universities "Centers of Excellence in Pain Education."
The center will act as a hub for the development, evaluation and distribution of pain management curriculum resources to enhance pain education for healthcare professionals.
More than 20 faculty members within the university's schools of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dental medicine and rehabilitation sciences will develop a curriculum for students to advance the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of pain conditions.
Dr. Weiner, who presently serves as a professor of medicine, psychiatry and anesthesiology, will join several other anesthesiology faculty members in the new center: Cheryl Bernstein, MD, Gerald Gebhart, PhD, and Michael Mangione, MD.
