Anesthesiologist-Turned-Governor Declines Government-Subsidized Health Insurance

Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.), MD, an anesthesiologist-turned-politician who centered his campaign on a planned repeal of the healthcare law, has said he will forego the government-subsidized insurance coverage provided by Congress in favor of keeping his own private plan, according to a USA Today report.

The representative caused a stir in Nov. 2010 when he asked why it would take a month for his government-funded health insurance to take effect. According to the report, Mr. Harris will continue to be covered under his private Blue Cross/Blue Shield health plan.
