A grand jury unsealed an indictment charging anesthesiologist Stephen Kyo-Sung Kim, MD, with murder for the death of his physician patient, NBC4 reports.
Here's what you should know:
1. Dr. Kim reportedly administered medicine to sedate Mark Greenspan, MD, 71, before surgery at the Beverly Hills, Calif.-based Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery Center.
2. The anesthesiologist allegedly injected himself with drugs while performing a procedure and gave Dr. Greenspan a fatal dose of Demerol while the patient was in a recovery room. Dr. Greenspan went into cardiac arrest and died Sept. 26, 2017, according to prosecutors.
3. Dr. Kim pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was ordered not to practice medicine while the case is ongoing.
4. Dr. Kim is due in a Los Angeles court Sept. 19 for a pretrial hearing and could face 25 years to life in prison if convicted of murder.
