Kenneth Elmassian, DO, president of the Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists wrote into the Detroit Free Press on the subject of drug shortages this week, emphasizing the ASA's work to alleviate shortages nationwide.
Dr. Elmassian said that he has "personally found that the shortages of anesthesia drugs are pandemic." He pointed out that the ASA convened a national drug shortages summit in an attempt to address ongoing issues and conducted a nationwide survey to learn more about the shortage's impact.
Additionally, he said the ASA supports President Barack Obama's executive order to prevent future issues.
