3 anesthesiologists in the headlines in 7 days

Here are three anesthesiologists in the headlines since Oct. 19:

1. A trial date has been set for Raynaldo Ortiz Jr., MD, an anesthesiologist who is accused of injecting heart-stopping medicine in IV bags at an ASC in Dallas. He allegedly injected IV bags with bupivacaine, epinephrine and lidocaine, resulting in a colleague's death and almost a dozen patients to experience unexpected cardiac emergencies.

2. Andy Harris, MD, is the only anesthesiologist among the 19 physicians in the 118th Congress. He is Republican representative from Maryland who has held his seat since 2011. Here are five things to know about Dr. Harris.

3. Anesthesiologist Michael Gallagher, MD, has had his license suspended after a patient died July 10 at the Wortham, Texas-based med spa where he was the medical director. The patient died after receiving an IV treatment from a non-licensed owner of the facility, and Dr. Gallagher allegedly failed to supervise.
