Mountain Laurel Surgery Center's former nursing director faces up to 8 years in prison for stealing fentanyl

Karen Feldner pled guilty to one felony count of fentanyl theft and a related misdemeanor drug charge, according to The Times-Tribune.

Here are five key points:

1. Ms. Feldner was the former director of nursing at Honesdale, Pa.-based Mountain Laurel Surgery Center.

2. In the fall 2016, the ASC found a substantial number of vials absent from its inventory, causing ASC personnel to notify the U.S Drug Enforcement Administration.

3. Court documents state surgery center staff told the officials the ASC never had issues with missing fentanyl prior to Ms. Feldner joining the ASC in November 2015.

4. Staff members said Ms. Feldner changed how the ASC delivered the drug and would often request to have the vials dropped off at her basement or she would pick them up from the pharmacy, according to investigators. The ASC fired Ms. Feldner in 2016.

5. She faces up to eight years in prison and a $20,000 fine for allegedly stealing more than 1,900 vials of fentanyl.
