Banner Health Phoenix Surgicenter (41 years). The surgery center, established in 1970, is the first freestanding, multispecialty surgery center in the country. It was rebuilt in 1993 and today, performs more than 800 procedures a month. It has held Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care accreditation for 35 years.
The center includes seven operating rooms, three endoscopy rooms, three overnight stay beds, 23 pre-and postoperative beds and chairs, as well as a pain center. It provides care in numerous specialties including ENT, gastroenterology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, gynecology, general surgery and podiatry.
Conroe (Texas) Surgery Center (31 years). The multispecialty surgery center performed its first surgery on January 25, 1984. In January 2016, the center will celebrate its 32nd anniversary. The center is a partnership with Tenet/United Surgical Partners International and 28 physicians. The 24,000-square-foot facility includes seven operating rooms and three overnight stay rooms. An average of 630 cases per month are performed at the facility. The center’s physician's perform procedures in numerous specialties. The procedures include lap band surgery, vagal nerve simulators for seizure control and retinal services. The center also features the LenSx Femtosecond laser and the ORA system. Ed Downs, RN, BS HCA, MBA, serves as the center's administrator. The center has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for accreditation.
Davis Ambulatory Surgical Center, Durham, N.C. (30 years). In 2010, the ASC celebrated its 25th anniversary. The first surgical cases were performed at center in 1985 and it has performed almost 130,000 surgical procedures since opening. The multispecialty surgery center includes 170 physicians credentialed to perform procedures in gynecology, plastic, urology, pain management, ophthalmology general surgery, endoscopy, otolaryngology, orthopedics, oral surgery and podiatry.
Madison Irving Surgery Center, Syracuse, N.Y. (28 years). Opened in 1987, the surgery center has served more than 120,000 patients. The very first surgery performed at the center was a cataract procedure. The surgery center was Crouse Hospital's second outpatient surgery center. Crouse Hospital's combined inpatient, ambulatory and outpatient surgical volume is more than 18,000 procedures annually.
Oak Brook (Ill.) Surgical Centre (31 years). Founded in 1984 as DuPage SurgiCenter, it was the first independent multispecialty ASC in DuPage County and the first in the state of Illinois to do outpatient laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy, according to Alfonso del Granado, the center's compliance officer.
The center also helped produce the largest academically published series of laparoscopic incidental appendectomy, laparoscopic tubal reanostomosis and numerous other distinctions. The center has a surgical site infection rate of 0.5 per thousand, says Mr. Granado.
The 15,000-square-foot surgery center is accredited by The Joint Commission and managed by Oak Brook Medical Management. It includes five operating rooms and more than 100 physicians providing care in a number of specialties, including gastroenterology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pain management, plastic surgery and urology.
Saint Vincent Surgery Center, Erie, Pa (28 years). The surgery center turned 25 in 2012. It was the first freestanding ambulatory surgery center in Erie, Pa., and first ASC in western Pennsylvania. Since its inception, the center has served more than 181,242 patients. The center includes 88 physicians credentialed to perform about 500 different surgical procedures on an average of 10,000 patients annually. The ASC also provides diagnostic testing services.
Surgicare of Wichita, Wichita, Kan. (41 years). The surgery center has been in business since 1974. Initially named Minor Surgery Center, it took on the name Surgicare of Wichita in 1985. Surgicare of Wichita is accredited by Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and an affiliate of Hospital Corporation of America. Physicians at the center perform procedures in a number of specialties such as gynecology, orthopedics, general surgery, podiatry, gastroenterology and ophthalmology. Jenny Morris is the center’s administrator.
The Surgery Center of Centralia, Centralia, Ill. (31 years). The ASC was built and founded in November 1984 under the name Doctors Surgicenter. The Surgery Center of Centralia was incorporated in February 1999 through a strategic alliance between Community Care in Brentwood, Tenn., and physician investors. The facility features two surgical suites and its physicians offer surgical services in ENT, gastroenterology, general surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology and pain management. The center’s administrator is Jason Fischer, BSN, RN.
Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center, St. Charles, Ill. (27 years). The ASC was established in 1988. It includes seven operating rooms and one procedure room. In addition, The ASC includes Valley Medical Inn, a 72-hour stay post-surgical recovery center, which has nine beds. The center offers care in a number of specialties such as ophthalmology, podiatry, gynecology, urology and pain management. In 2014, the center was the site of the first outpatient total hip replacement in the state. Daniel C. Hauer, CASC, is the administrator of the surgery center.
