Robert Bray, MD, founded Newport Beach, Calif.-based DISC Sports & Spine Center in 2006. In an interview with Becker's ASC Review, Dr. Bray said he founded the practice due to his frustrations in the hospital environment.
Dr. Bray said, "In hospitals, you are part of a big piece of the puzzle and you don't always have control to run it right. I felt I needed more control of the spine program to focus on the things I wanted to focus on."
The Red Bulletin nicknamed Dr. Bray "Dr. Fix-It" due to his dedication to treating elite athletes. A neurological spine surgeon, he has performed more than 10,000 procedures with 95 percent of his clinical focus being on outpatient surgery.
Dr. Bray holds a variety of patents on spinal implants and surgical instruments. He served a combined 20 years of active and reserve duty service with the U.S. Air Force.
